NUTS & BOLTS by Chris Mosley

January 2015

This past Sunday we held the NNJR Region Party at the Packanack Lake Clubhouse in Wayne, NJ. We throw this party every year to say thanks to all of our hard working workers and hand out some hardware to all of the NNJR Solo Champions. Ernie and Perry did the honors. All of the Specialty Chiefs honored their workers of the year and presented them with a nice NNJR umbrella. Prior to the awards we had the last hour and a half of the Daytona 24 on the big screen so everyone could enjoy the finish. We also honored Boris Kwaloff as he celebrates 55 years as an NNJR member.

Coming up is the SCCA National Convention. This year it is being held in Charlotte, NC. No more Vegas. Yeah! If you don’t know about it, the convention has classes on running solos, race weekends and even on how to find sponsors to help you pay for your racing. It’s three days of information gathering. Saturday night they have the SCCA Hall of Fame induction Dinner. Last year they inducted John Bishop (of both SCCA and IMSA fame) and Skip Barber. This year is the first ever North American Motorsports Expo at the Charlotte Convention Center. I believe the Convention Center is within walking distance of the hotel where the SCCA convention is being held. If you sign up for the SCCA National Convention you also get free entry to the Expo.

Remember that racing is changing for SCCA members this year. There are no more National races except the Majors. All other racing is just that, racing. No more national or regional classifications. No more National only licenses either. We’re all just racers now.

First up on the race calendar is the March Lion Drivers School at NJMP Lightning course. Registration will be open soon. Students, get your cars ready and come on out and earn your SCCA competition license. We have the best instructors on the east coast to help you.

Next on the schedule is the first race of the NE Divisional Race Series presented by Mazza Vineyards and EFS COMBUST at Summit Point, W VA on April 12th and 13th. This is the first in a series of eight weekends that will crown NE Divisional Champions in every GCR eligible class and several regional only classes. It also provides another avenue to qualify for the 2014 Runoff’s at Laguna Seca.

The full schedule and rules for the NE Divisional Race Series presented by Mazza Vineyards and EFS COMBUST can be found at http://www.nediv.com/nedcs/123-nediv-announces-divisional-championship-series. Also in April, the Devil in the Dark twelve hour returns to Thunderbolt Raceway at NJMP. Last year’s event was great and this year should be even better. Expect to see a great field of cars competing in the half around the clock race.

Volunteers are needed for every event on the calendar. Come on out for a fun day or weekend at the race track. See the drivers and cars from the best vantage point on the race track, the flag station. Nowhere else can you get this close to all the action and excitement of sports car racing. We’ll teach you all you need to know, introduce you to a whole new world of fun and excitement, feed you and introduce you to some great people!
